I keep noticing that when searching for a specific author or title I get results that do not begin with the specific author or title. Instead I get reams of results that may include one or both of the author's name as part of a longer name. For example when searching for author Mary Baker the majority of the results were for books by or about Mary Baker Eddy. How can I avoid this problem? It's a tremendous waste of time and often yields such a lengthy result that its of virtually no value.

I am still wondering if there is a way to learn to use the new filters you e added. One of the problems I continue to have is when doing a straight alphabetical search i am not finding any terms in the filters listed.

Can anyone help with these questions? Thank you.

there are several different authors with the name Mary Baker. Not sure which one you are trying to isolate. The query will at least remove Mary Baker Eddy:

You were kind enough to respond to this post in December but I wasn't able to read the reply until now.
My question was about searching problems in general and the "Mary Baker" search was just one example of a bigger issue: 1. how to narrow a search so it doesn't yield hundreds of results, many of which are not relevant to the original search word or words and 2. how do the newer filters you installed work?
Thanks for your help.

the facets on the left side of a results page can filter for those facets.

to learn how to use search limiters you'd need to search the web for guidance.
